12/18/2017 Recap: December Singles RegionalOn Saturday, December 16 we ran our last event of the 2017 year. During this event, we ran four different tournaments - Advanced Singles (Regional), Competitive Singles (Advanced), Blind Draw (Local) and 8 Bag Challenge Tournament (Local). Advanced Singles: Congratulations to Doug Z. for going undefeated to win his 2nd Singles Regional (5 Regional win overall) of the season. GIlberto G. came in 2nd place and Drea F. came in 3rd place. See the full tournament HERE. Competitive Singles: Congratulations to Beth H. for winning her first regional singles event beating Angie H. 21-20 in the sudden death championship game. Mario M. came in 3rd place. See the full tournament HERE. Blind Draw Doubles: Congratulations to Bert A. & Jack E. for going undefeated to win the blind draw tournament for local points. Al D. & Larry F. came in 2nd place and Juan C. & Vic B. came in 3rd place. See the full tournament HERE. 8 Bag Challenge Tournament: We introduced this new event to the event this week (Thank you for the idea Cleveland Cornhole). Players participated in a double elimination style tournament where winners were determined an 8 Bag Challenge score. On Saturday, December 9 we ran the 1st Annual Christmas Carnival Cornhole Tournament at Matson Money in Scottsdale. We had a total of 43 teams competing in two divisions - social, experienced. Money raised from the event benefited Family Promise™ of Arizona, an incredible non-profit who partnered with the Matson Family Foundation to fulfill on our vision of creating and contributing the actual experience of Christmas in such a way that love, hope and generosity, the essence of the Holidays, show up in abundance for the families who need it the most this Holiday Season.
The Social division teams competed in a two-stage tournament - pool play followed by a single elimination tournament. Kyle & Ivan took the championship over the 2nd place team of Chaise & Bradley. Alex & Zach came in 3rd place betting Brannon & Mike in the consolation game. See the full tournament HERE. After coming up just short in previous regional events, Drea & Jermaine broke through with their first regional win in the Experienced division. Bill & Larry fought back through the loser's bracket to earn a 2nd place finish. Juan & Gilberto rounded out the money winners with a 3rd place finish. See the full tournament HERE. We also ran a 2nd Chance tournament for the teams that went 0-2 and 1-2. Elevan teams competed in a single elimination tournament. The top 2 teams got their choice of bags generously donated by ACL-approved bag makers. Bryan & Len beat Andy & Bob to win the 2nd Chance tournament. See full tournament HERE.
Our last event of the day was a Long Toss competition. Half of the money in the pot went to the Family Promise of Arizona fundraising efforts and the other half went to the winner of the competition. Matt C. hit the longest shot at 46 feet winning $168 and a set of Xtreme Speed bags donated by Original Cornhole Company. Check out our FACEBOOK page for event images. We had 42 singles compete in three different divisions (kids, intermediate and advanced) as well as 48 teams in three different divisions (social, intermediate and advanced). The festival was a blast and the weather was great!
